Swift Cantrell Classic 5K
Walk, run and have fun at the first annual Swift-Cantrell Classic on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 7:30am in downtown Kennesaw. The run is billed as “a Mother’s Day race for more play space” and is a 5K run to benefit the Swift Cantrell Foundation. 100% of the sponsorships and proceeds will go to capital improvements for Swift Cantrell Park. Participants can run or walk in the 5K (3.1 miles) or participate in the 1 mile kids fun run or 1 mile family fun walk.
After the race, race participants can enjoy a free pancake breakfast and awards ceremony. The awards ceremony features awards for overall champions in running divisions as well as winners in age brackets and door prizes.

Race Day Registration:

Race Route:
The race begins and ends on JO Stephenson Bulevard in front of Kennesaw City Hall. The race travels down Main Street, then to Swift Cantrell Park, then back on Main Street to downtown Kennesaw.

Parking is available in downtown Kennesaw as well as Kennesaw First Baptist Church and the Depot parking lot.

The 2010 Kennesaw Farmers Market is back and bigger than ever. Now in it’s sixth season, the farmers market takes place every Tuesday from May through October.
From 7am to 1pm, local farmers and merchants offer fresh tomatoes, flowers, seasonal fruits and vegetables, baked goods, plants, herbs, and a variety of local food and products. Be sure to get there early for the best selection.

Kennesaw Business Expo
The Kennesaw Business Expo is your chance to meet local business owners, enjoy some great free food, take home some free giveaways, network and build business connections, and meet some great people who call Cobb County home. The Kennesaw Business Association is hosting the 2010 Kennesaw Business Expo at the Ben Robertson Community Center in Kennesaw on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 from 4pm to 8pm. Touch-A-Truck
Get ready to put your imagination in gear and get into the driver’s seat as Touch-A-Truck rolls into Kennesaw on Saturday, March 20, 2010. The event is sponsored by the Kennesaw Parks and Recreation Department and takes place from 10am to 2pm.
The event allows kids of all ages to get up close and personal with dozens of cars, trucks, and construction vehicles. Some of the vehicles include a cement truck, garbage truck, backhoe, tractor, and a police car. Kids will learn about the functions they serve and even meet the drivers. Be sure to bring your camera and enjoy the great photo opportunities as your kids explore the vehicles, climb into the driver’s seat, honk the horn and pretend to steer.

Kennesaw Easter Egg Hunt

Kennesaw’s Easter Egg Scramble takes place on March 27, 2010. The Easter egg hunt begins at 10 am sharp so bring the kids to hunt for thousands of goody-filled eggs (some with prizes!) and wrapped candy treats on the events field at Swift-Cantrell Park.
The scramble will be divided into three age groups:
0-3 years
4-5 years
Ages 6 & up
Children must be accompanied by an adult. Be sure to bring a basket or bag to collect treats, and don’t forget your camera. The Easter Bunny will be on hand for pictures, hugs and handshakes.

Valentines Dance
The City of Kennesaw parks and recreation department is hosting a Valentines Dance this Saturday, Feb 6 from 6-9 pm. The banquet hall in the Community Center will be transformed into a magical kingdom complete with a castle court and a dragon’s lair. Dance, party and play in a wonderland of fun. The event also features abundant food, refreshments, games, storytelling and make-and-take crafts for all to enjoy.
Come dressed in your favorite gown or suit of shining armor — and win prizes during the costume contest. A professional DJ will spin a medieval medley of tunes, and photos will be available for purchase. It’ll be a night your family will remember & treasure forever.

Kennesaw Book, CD & DVD Swap
Books, CDs, and DVDs can be expensive, and you are probably tired of some of the ones you have. Now is the time to trade it for something else at The Kennesaw Book, CD, and DVD Swap. Simply drop off your gently used books (hardcover or paperback), music CDs and DVD movies at the Ben Robertson Community Center on Thursday, April 22 or Friday, April 23 2010 from 12pm to 8pm and receive a ticket redeemable for the same number of books, CDs and/or DVDs during the “open swap” on Saturday, April 24 2010 from 8am to 11am.
Books must have both the front and back covers intact and be in good condition. DVDs and CDs must be in their original cases and fully operable. Please do not bring any magazines, software, record albums, VHS or cassette tapes, adult content, or any unauthorized or illegal material. All items remaining after the swap will be donated to a local charity. Please keep in mind that items will not be available for purchase during this free media swap.

Big Shanty Festival

Downtown Kennesaw is host to the 34rd annual Big Shanty Festival on April 17 and 18, 2010. The festival combines the best of the rich heritage of Kennesaw and the Civil War era with today’s fun filled activities. Over 50,000 attendees will enjoy the more than 200 booths with arts & crafts, food vendors, merchants, and live entertainment.
This year’s event offers great entertainment and a variety of foods to please everyone’s palate. Entertainment will include Kennesaw’s famous Little General Cloggers, the Kennesaw Dance Troupe, the Great Gig Dance Studio, the ETO Demo Team and coruses from Big Shanty, Bullard and Frey Elementary School. Also featured are choirs from Kennesaw First Baptist Church and Northstar Church.
The Kennesaw Big Shanty Festival kicks off with a parade on Saturday, April 17 at 9:30am. The parade features floats, high school bands, marchers, and over 1,000 youngsters representing every sport association in the area. Also included are the winners of Little Miss Cobb Beauty Pageant along with the winners of the Master, Miss, and Mrs. Kennesaw Pageant and Kennesaw Mountain and North Cobb School Bands. The Parade will start at Adams Park and continue down Main Street through downtown Kennesaw.
