Veteran’s Day in Kennesaw

The cities of Marietta, Kennesaw and Acworth are collaborating to provide a special day of recognition for servicemen and women on November 11, 2009.

The city of Marietta’s annual Veteran’s Day Parade takes place in downtown Marietta starting at 11 am. Major General William T. Nesbitt, Adjutant General, Georgia National Guard, will serve as the parade grand marshall and keynote speaker at a noon ceremony on the Square.

The city of Kennesaw, in cooperation with the American Legion Post 304, will host a free lunch for vets from noon to 2 pm at the Ben Robertson Community Center, 2753 Watts Drive. Vets are invited to enjoy hamburgers and hotdogs served by Kennesaw city officials and Legionnaires and meet Congressman Gingrey.

In Acworth, a ceremony honoring military veterans will be held at 2 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial at Patriots Point. Major General George Harrison (Ret.), Associate Director of the Georgia Tech Research Institute will be the keynote speaker at the ceremony.

“Kennesaw wanted to provide veterans with a way to participate in both Marietta and Acworth’s events,” said City Councilman Tim Killingsworth, himself a former US Marine. “It is our privilege to offer former and present service members an opportunity to have lunch in Kennesaw after they attend the Marietta parade or before they attend the Acworth ceremony.”
