Paws in the Park

Paws in the Park takes place on Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 9am to noon at Swift-Cantrell Park. The event is sponsored by the Kennesaw Environmental Committee and is a celebration of dogs. Visitors can enjoy service dog demonstrations, visit vendor booths, and take the Primrose Paws Pledge. There is even a chance for visitors to march in the Doggie Parade at 10am. The event encourages pet owners to be responsible and pick up after their dogs, thus keeping area parks, sidewalks and green spaces clean and safe for everyone.

Taste of Kennesaw

Bring your appetite to the 2011 Taste of Kennesaw in downtown Kennesaw on Saturday, September 10, 2011 from 11am to 8pm. More than 30 different local restaurants will be on hand to showcase their delicious creations. Food samples are sold in $0.50 increments, from $1 to $4.

While you are there, you can also enjoy live music on two entertainment stages. Main Street Stage and Depot Stage will have continuous entertainment throughout the day.

Bring the kids and enjoy the wide variety of activities for the kids including a rock wall, inflatables and slides, a trackless train, and more.

The event benefits four local charities including Shop with a Mustang (Kennesaw Mountain High School), Shop with a Warrior (North Cobb High School), MUST Ministries, and the Jerry Worthan Community Christmas Fund.

In addition, restaurants will also be competing for recognition in the following categories:

Family Fun Fest featuring DecembeRadio

Family Fun Fest is a Christian Family Music Festival featuring games and activities for kids of all ages. The event features free parking, free admission, free games, and free Live Music. This year’s main act is DecembeRadio as part of the “Be Strong” Tour. Along with DecemebeRadio, the event features Amorous and Jeremy the Painter.

Along with fun, games and music, the event includes a variety of vendors with items available for purchase.

4th Fireworks and Summer Concert Series

The Kennesaw summer concert series continues with Eagles tribute band Hotel California on Sunday, July 3 2011 at 8pm. The band Destination will perform at 6 pm.

A patriotic fireworks show begins at 9:30pm after the sun goes down, and concertgoers can enjoy Kennesaw’s annual pre-Independence Day fireworks.

A six-foot rectangular table located in front of the performance area can be reserved for $50 (or $75 for the July 3 concert). Each table seats six persons. Chairs are included. The number of tables is limited; tables are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reserve a table online at www.kennesaw-ga.gov/pkrec (click on the “Summer Concert Series” link) or call 770-422-9714.

With the exception of reserved tables, all seating is general admission lawn seating, so bring a blanket or comfortable low-back chair. Food and beverage vendors will be on site; however concertgoers are welcome to bring a cooler and pack a picnic basket. No barbecue grills are allowed.

Summer Concert Series

The City of Kennesaw’s FREE popular open-air concert series will kickoff at the Depot in downtown Kennesaw on June 11 at 8 pm with Almost Elton & The Rocket Band.

Almost Elton stars multi-talented singer and pianist Craig A. Meyer, whose credits include appearances in film and on television and Broadway. Throughout Meyer’s career, he was repeatedly approached about his striking resemblance to and uncanny ability to sound like Elton John and was persuaded to begin impersonating him.

Today, Meyer is known as one of the best Elton John Tribute acts in the industry. His strong vocals and amazing talent on the piano has audiences remembering when rock was young.

Outdoor Movie Series

This year, the 2011 Kennesaw Outdoor Movie Series continues with a trio of family friendly flicks at Swift-Cantrell Park in Kennesaw. On Saturday, October 1 2011, the featured movie is Yogi Bear (Rated PG). The inflatable screen lights up at dark, so arrive early (around 6pm) for games, face painting, inflatable fun, and more.

Admission is free, but concessions and some activities have an extra charge. Bring your blanket or lawn chair and a picnic (no alcohol or glass containers) and relax “on the green” for an outdoor movie night the whole family will enjoy. All movies are rated PG, and titles are subject to change. Cancellations may occur due to weather conditions.

The Center Helping Obesity In Children End Successfully (C.H.O.I.C.E.S.) is hosting a walk and Children’s Nutrition Education & Physical Activity Expo at Swift-Cantrell Park on Saturday, May 21 2011, from 9am to 1pm. The walk begins at 9am and includes 10,000 steps around Swift-Cantrell Park. After the walk, stick around for the Children’s Nutrition Education & Physical Activity Expo.

Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival

Kennesaw Pigs and Peaches Barbeque Festival

The City of Kennesaw is hosting the annual Pigs and Peaches BBQ Festival on Friday, August 26 and Saturday, August 27, 2011. The festival features plenty of great barbecued meats as well as great desserts and live entertainment. Kids will enjoy the large Kid Zone, and families can enjoy the numerous vendors and exhibits.

The Festival includes a Georgia State Championship Barbecue Cookoff, including over $14,000 in cash and prizes in an event sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society. There is also a non-sanctioned Backyard BBQ event and a Anything Butt and Peach Dessert Contest. New this year for the kids is the Kid’s Q’ sponsored by EZ Grill.

Also new this year, the Silver Wings Army Paratroopers out of Fort Benning will be parachuting in to the event Saturday, August 27 at 1pm, and they are bringing a Black Hawk helicopter display as well as a flight simulator. The event concludes with a fireworks display on Saturday at 10pm.

Entertainment Stage:
Free live entertainment will be offered on two stages – the kids zone stage and the main stage.
On Friday, Toulouse Street (Doobie Brothers tribute band) will headline the main stage at 7:30pm.
On Saturday, the entertainment lineup on the kids stage includes puppet shows, youth dance performances, and cooking demonstrations. Saturday’s main stage lineup includes blues and jazz acts (including Tommy Keys and Martha Ann Brooks) as well as The Stranger (Billy Joel tribute) headlining at 7pm.

The Silver Wings Command Exhibition Parachute Demonstration Team from Fort Benning will jump into the Festival on Saturday, August 27 at 1pm.
