New CBS Reality Show “Block Party” Filming in Kennesaw

A new CBS reality show is filming in the Annandale section of Legacy Park in Kennesaw. The show will feature eight families of neighbors competing against each other for a chance to win a large cash prize. What’s the catch? All of the houses are are locked behind massive 20 foot walls made from 100 tons of steel. Shooting is scheduled for several weeks and the participants cannot leave or they forfeit their chance at winning. This means no going to school, no grocery shopping, no golf, no soccer practice, no dining out, and no going to work.
It’s a Mike Fleiss project (creator of “The Bachelorette”, “High School Reunion”) and the air date has not yet been announced.

City of Kennesaw Homeowners’ Property Tax Increase
The City of Kennesaw recently issued a press release with information regarding a 2009 and 2010 homeowners’ property tax increase. The increase is due to a Georgia tax relief grant that is no longer being funded by the state, and is not a City of Kennesaw tax increase. Homeowners will see a tax bill with a $64 increase in 2009 and 2010. The full press release is included below:

For Immediate ReleaseImportant Tax Information
Eliminated State Grant Increases Homeowners’ Property Tax
The Homeowner’s Tax Relief Grant enacted by the Georgia General Assembly was not funded in the 2009 State budget, resulting in an increase for homeowners’ 2009 property tax bills. This amount was paid previously on the property owner’s behalf by the state and is not a City of Kennesaw tax increase. The result is the City of Kennesaw tax bill in 2009 and 2010 will increase by $64. If your taxes are paid from an escrow account through your mortgage lender, you may want to notify them so the escrow payment amount can be adjusted accordingly.
In 1999, the governor and General Assembly appropriated the grant to counties, cities and schools, giving tax relief to homeowners in the form of a tax bill credit. According to legislation passed this year (House Bill 143), the grant will only be made available in the future if state revenues grow at least 3 percent plus the rate of inflation.
For more information, contact Christy Huiel, the City’s property tax administrator, at 770-424-8274 or email her at chuiel@kennesaw-ga.gov.
Kennesaw Water Restrictions and Outdoor Water Use

On June 10, 2009, the Georgia EPA lifted the tough outdoor watering restrictions in place in Kennesaw and throughout much of Georgia since late 2007. Georgia Environmental Protection Division Director Carol Couch said. “This drought has ended, our water supplies are flush, our rivers and streams have rebounded.”
Outdoor watering is now allowed at any time on your designated days. The current residential water use rules in Kennesaw are as follows:
Even or no number addresses can water on:
Mondays
Wednesday
Saturday
Odd numbered addresses can water on:
Tuesday
Thursday
Sunday
Although Georgia has seen the second wettest spring in over a century, water conservation is still recommended.
Did you know:
Up to 65% of drinking water in Cobb County can be used for outdoor watering
Over watering, and not drought, is the number one killer of plants
Watering every other day creates plants that are weaker and water dependent
For more information, call the Cobb County Water Efficiency office at (770) 419-6244.
CBS Reality Show “There Goes the Neighborhood” filmed in Kennesaw

The CBS reality show “There Goes the Neighborhood” features eight Kennesaw families competing for a $250,000 grand prize. The show, filmed in the Legacy Park neighborhood in Kennesaw, is part of the CBS summer lineup. Tune in to CBS to see what happened – Sundays at 9 on CBS.
In what promises to be the ultimate social and family bonding experiment, the actual homes will be cut off from the outside world as it becomes family vs. family in a competition to win upgrades for their lives and their homes. With virtually no electricity and no ability to text-message, watch television or surf the internet, these families will be forced to reconnect and work together as a team. For the duration of the competition, the eight homes will be surrounded by the daunting 20-foot wall with no way in or out. The families will compete against their neighbors in the game, with one family eliminated each week, until the victorious group remains to claim the $250,000 grand prize.

Filming has wrapped, lawns have been repaired, and things appear to be back to normal in this Kennesaw neighborhood. Here are some pictures from our previous article about this new CBS reality show filmed in Kennesaw.
